Agreeing To Disagree On Comment Boards

So, to introduce this, let's start with the premise that comment boards, messaging boards, social media in general are fraught with danger if you disagree. Many people are not equipped to listen, and if they are putting their thoughts out for all the world to see, do not want to be shown up.

That said. Sometimes you come across someone who has a genuine respect for the well presented notice of a differing view. I believe that is what happened in the comment thread posted below. I down-ticked a remark, then offered a brief ownership of my potential insult. The original commenter took notice, and even rewarded me for engaging politely. You'll see what I mean.

(Note: Pay attention to the timeline as referenced by the "hours ago" attached to each post)

Perhaps it should have ended there, I was happy to have such a response as he gave initially. (Shown at the bottom of the below section because of the way he selected his response options, a separate thread within the tread). Having received his "At least you gave a reason, so I upvoted your reply." I was already grateful for his exchange.

Then an hour later he offered more.(See the section above "13 hours ago") Like an invitation to discuss. I guess we can say I accepted the invite.

I will add further thoughts about this experience later. Perhaps he will have more to say as well. 'til then.
