Geopolitical Monopoly?

Now Japan is showing signs of economic distress, which brings the list of countries in troubled to what, half the planet? At what point does it happen that all countries are in trouble and thus everyone owes everyone so nobody owes anybody? Or, will it rather become like a game of Monopoly where only one player wins?
